A brief History

The Preston Beach Progress Association was established – 1984 by a small group of residents with a common goal of improving the facilities and social life

They were instrumental in establishing the local fire brigade and the Golf Club.

1993 – The PBPA was incorporated and began the process of building a small community hall on land excised from the adjacent golf course and placed under the management of the Progress Association Committee.  This first building also doubled as a place to house the small fire truck.

2000 onward

The association has always worked to improve our small town, the facilities and the wellbeing of our community. Projects have included:

  • Ongoing work to stabilize the dunes, including acquisition of a Brush Trailer
  • 4WD Clinic over four years, with a goal to educating people in safe driving on the beach.
  • Upgrade of beach car park – members were engaged in the planning of the new car park layout, installation of reticulation, lawns, playground and BBQ
  • Jubilee Celebrations in 2007 including a Time Capsule
  • Set up of a local Telecentre/Resource Centre (now closed and resources moved to Yarloop)
  • Construction of the ANZAC pavilion and memorial wall
  • Installation of town CCTV

Events

Events have always been the primary focus of the PBPA.  Every year is packed full of exciting events such as annual functions on Australia Day, ANZAC Day, Easter Book Sale, Christmas in July, Volunteers Breakfast, New Years Eve Party and Christmas Sundowner.

Local groups are encouraged to use the facilities at the Community Centre.

Some current users are: Friday morning Singers, Tuesday and Saturday morning Yoga, Tuesday evening YHT Kung Fu, Monday morning Canasta, and a regular book club (once per month).

Workshops are a great way to bring people together. There have been many in the past and will continue to be in the future.  In conjunction with the Shire of Waroona, we have brought you workshops including:

  • Bees Wax Wraps, Soap Making
  • Digital Technology, Healthy Cooking
  • Origami etc
  • Christmas Pudding making class.

Fundraising is also an essential part of our activities and these are often included in our regular events, but can take many and various forms.

We work closely with the Preston Beach Golf Club and the Community Garden to ensure that residents and visitors have the opportunity to participate in a range of interesting and engaging activities.

Volunteering

The heart and soul of any community group is the volunteers.  We have been very fortunate to have a large and active group of people within Preston Beach who have been and continue to volunteer within the community.  We are always very happy to welcome new members and volunteers into the Preston Beach Progress Association.  We look forward to meeting you. We need your new ideas!!
